AmeriCorps Position Description: Recruitment Capacity Member

Reports to: Young Scholars Program Manager

Stipend: Approximately $900.00 bi-weekly, plus education award of up to $4,266.50

Term of Service: July 2019 – June 2020

Location: San Bernardino, CA

Position Summary:

The Recruitment Capacity Member works closely with the Program Manager to recruit high quality AmeriCorps candidates that are willing to commit to a full term of service and meet the needs of the San Bernardino community. This position is responsible for assisting with all outreach and recruitment efforts for the current and following program years.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the development of a program-specific recruitment action plan
  • Securing partnerships with local organizations, including other AmeriCorps affiliated programs, department chairs of higher education institutions, and school and career counselors, in order to connect individuals to service opportunities with Youth Action Project
  • Expanding community outreach through presenting at community meetings, career fairs, etc.
  • Building a social media presence through active posting and coordination with partner agencies
  • Designing marketing materials that will be used for current and future recruitment efforts

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident
  • High school diploma or GED required; minimum 48 college semester or 60 college quarter units preferred
  • At least 17 years of age (requires high school completion and parent/guardian consent)
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to school site(s), YAP office, and meeting sites as required
  • Must be available and willing to work evenings and weekends (on occasion)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous hands-on experience with recruitment
  • Familiarity with target marketing strategies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required; proficiency in Constant Contact preferred
  • Graphic design experience or knowledge of Canva is preferred
  • Strong public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel, students, peers, the public and community groups
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bilingual in Spanish is desired, but not required

Term of Service:

Completion of 1200 service and training hours in the 2019-2020 academic year is required. Service term begins July 2019 and ends June 2020. Service is required Monday through Friday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm with occasional evening and/or weekend hours served when needed.
