AmeriCorps Position Description: Volunteer Coordinator

Reports to: Young Scholars Program Manager

Stipend: approx. Approximately $620.00 bi-weekly, plus education award of up to $3,047.50

Term of Service: July 2019 – June 2020

Location: San Bernardino, CA

Position Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and managing community members to participate in various service projects. The VC is also responsible for coordinating service events for AmeriCorps National Days of Service.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruitment and management of one-time and on-going volunteers based on Youth Action Project’s community service projects and programmatic goals
  • Community outreach via social media, online volunteer sign-up sites (such as VolunteerMatch), speaking at community meetings, etc. to promote service events and generate volunteers
  • Creating marketing materials to promote service events
  • Tracking volunteer information in a database, including contact information and total completed hours
  • Collaborating with other community organizations to recruit volunteers and coordinate service projects
  • Completing required program documentation and preparing reports on volunteer involvement
  • Participating in all required trainings, workshops, and service events

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident
  • High school diploma or GED required; minimum 48 college semester or 60 college quarter units preferred
  • At least 17 years of age (requires high school completion and parent/guardian consent)
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to school site(s), YAP office, and meeting sites as required
  • Must be available and willing to work evenings and weekends (on occasion)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A sincere interest in addressing the needs of the San Bernardino community
  • Previous experience with recruitment and management of all ages and backgrounds
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required; proficiency in Constant Contact preferred
  • Strong public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel, students, peers, the public and community groups
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bilingual in Spanish is desired, but not required

Term of Service:

Completion of 900 service and training hours in the 2019-2020 academic year is required. Service term begins July 2019 and ends June 2020. Service is required Monday through Friday, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm with occasional evening and/or weekend hours served when needed.
